Alejandro Borrajo Signs with Colavita/Sutter Home for 2008
Tina Pic and Dotsie Bausch Return to Lead Women’s Team
Jamis Bicycles to Supply Revolutionary Line of Road and Time Trial BikesLinden, NJ -- The Colavita/Sutter Home Cycling Teams presented by Cooking Light will enter the 2008 season with a new bicycle sponsor and a powerful line-up of cyclists, including several notable additions to its core rosters of experienced, decorated cyclists.
As previously announced, Jamis Bicycles, the Northvale, NJ-maker of high-performance bicycles for competitive and recreational use, will supply the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s and Women’s Teams with ultra-light Xenith SL road bikes and the innovative Xenith T2 line of time trial bikes.
“We’re proud to partner with Colavita, Sutter Home Winery, and Cooking Light magazine and welcome the opportunity to participate at the highest levels of the sport,” said Carine Joannou, President and CEO of Jamis Bicycles. “Our Xenith line is completely re-engineered and ready for racing at the world-class level of the Colavita/Sutter Home cyclists.”
Ms. Joannou announced that Alejandro Borrajo of Argentina has signed with the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team for the 2008 season. Borrajo is among the most talented all-round cyclists in the North American peloton, with more than 20 podium appearances at major U.S. races such as the Tour of Virginia, the US Open, and the Commerce Bank Triple Crown, along with numerous top 10 finishes in the Giro d’ Italia. He rode with the Rite Aid Pro Cycling Team last year
After a one-year absence, Kyle Wamsley, winner of the Chris Thater Memorial Criterium, will rejoin the Colavita/Sutter Home squad for the 2008 season. Riding with Navigators Insurance last year, Wamsley emerged as a sprinter to watch, highlighted by his third-place finish in the first stage of the inaugural Tour of Missouri against some of the fastest cyclists in the world.
Returning to the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s squad for 2008 are all-rounder Davide Frattini and climbing talent Anthony Colby. Frattini, a native of Italy and former “Baby” Giro d’ Italia champion, is a skilled and highly versatile competitor. With top 5 finishes in many of the toughest races on U.S. soil, Frattini successfully supports the team’s climbers and sprinters in their quests for their respective jerseys. Anthony Colby of Durango, CO has distinguished himself as a singular climbing talent, taking third in the stage up the infamous Brasstown Bald in the Tour de Georgia, then capping off the season with the King of the Mountain jersey in the 2007 Tour de Toona.
The powerhouse trio of Tina Pic, Dotsie Bausch, and Alison Powers will again lead the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team for the 2008 season. Pic, one of the most decorated riders in U.S. cycling history, clinched her fifth USA National Criterium Championship title in August, a triumphant conclusion to an extraordinary season that included 16 first-place victories. During the season, Pic extended her winning streak outside the U.S. to capture a gold medal at the Pan American road championships, which guaranteed her a berth on the U.S. national team for the world championships in Stuttgart.
Newly-crowned U.S. pursuit national champion Dotsie Bausch returns to the Colavita/Sutter Home squad for her fourth season. One of the strongest all-round riders to come out of the U.S., Bausch brought home Colavita/Sutter Home’s first win of the 2007 season in the first stage of the Geelong Tour, the UCI-sanctioned stage race held in Australia. A decorated time trialist, Bausch is also known for her climbing prowess and sprint finishes. Bausch will be representing the U.S. at the World Cup track championships in Sydney in November.
Riding for a second season in Colavita/Sutter Home colors will be Alison Powers, the 2007 Pan American time trial champion and former competitive downhill skier. With her formidable strength and outstanding technical skills, Alison proved a dominant force in U.S. and international racing. Her performance in the prologue of the Giro d’Italia Donne, considered the “women’s Tour de France” represented the top finish for an American woman in the nine-stage event.
Complete rosters for the men’s and women’s teams will be announced shortly.
